Replacing 1st gen iPad

So my iPad is getting very creaky now. It's slow, it has a warning up on YouTube that soon it's system will not support it, the BBC news site crashes it, Facebook crashes it, etc.
I want to replace it but is another iPad my best bet. I do love it but need to send occasional written documents (cv). Can you do that on new iPad? And if I'm just a casual user do I need air2 and all that.

Will all of my music transfer to a new iPad when I sign in to iTunes? And is there any way of transferring the music to an iPod without a laptop?

I was in the same position as you at Christmas IPee
My dh surprised me with an iPad Air 2 on Christmas eve!
Best thing ever.

Still balking at the 300 odd quid. But something will have to be done soon.

Make sure the iPad is backed up. Then, pick a new one. When you connect the new one, it will ask if you would like to restore form a back-up. Say yes. Within a few minutes, it will be as if you are holding the old iPad - except it will be a new one that works brilliantly.

If you'd consider a contract one there have been some very good deal around. I got an air a couple of months ago for £20 a month. My wife got a mini2 for the same price.
