Can anyone help? Running Windows 8.1 on PC. Word document has disappeared, despite having been saved. Have tried searching PC and cloud under the document name, and have also searched .wbk, .tmp and .asd files with no joy. Am I doomed?

Have you closed Word and re-opened it to see it it auto-recovers it?

Also, open Word and then select Open and see what the default location is when it tries to open a file - your old file is most likely to be there.

my recent docs - either from the desktop, or from word?

Or open a new file, pretend to save it, and see where it defaults to. Lok in there

good luck!

Thank you both - but have tried both options with no joy. Sad It seems to have literally vanished into thin air

I didn't think this was possible - if I imagined saving it, I'd get a prompt when shutting down Word, surely?

go to search and type:
doc
(I think you should be able to order by most recent)
if that search doesn't find it try typing and searching for:
.

sorry - I meant stardocstar
if I type here character followed by word doc followed by character it gets converted to the word doc in BOLD

the seconde search id followed by a dot followed by

Thank you for helping though

try those methods as well - support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/316951

cdtaylornats · 24/03/2015 22:21

Could you have accidentally savedd it using Save As in which case it would be called Untitled followed by a number .doc

No joy. Can't understand what's happened. Looks like a day's work is down the drain ...

Thanks though Flowers

nothing in trash bin either?

ibbydibby · 25/03/2015 19:56

Have you tried doing a search for a word/words it contains? Any chance you have a recent documents tab (I think that's how I retrieved something once that was otherwise lost..)

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 27/03/2015 20:21

No, nothing in recycle bin and search under names/keywords reveals nothing! I'm resigned to a rewrite
