I-book from laptop to kindle

Can anyone help me get an e-book from my macbook onto my kindle paperwhite? I've tried clicking and dragging it from my downloads into the kindle folder when they're connected, but it doesn't then appear on my kindle. I'm still learning how to use my MacBook, and haven't ever put anything onto my kindle apart from Amazon purchases so feel a bit lost. Thanks.

Have you tried emailing it?

Been a long time since I put a document on my kindle but I think I emailed it.

I did want to do that but I couldn't find where it tells you the kindle email address - hunted through settings (on the kindle) but just couldn't see it...

You need to convert the book with Calibre, its a free download. Once you have downloaded the freeware, you can plug in your kindle to your mac.

Retrieve the book to your calibre library and then convert the book from pdf/epub format to MOBI format (its quite self explanatory, and I dont bother to change any of the other default settings on convert.)

Calibre shoud recognise that a device (the kindle) is plugged in and you should be able to send it to the device from the main calibre screen.

If not, calibre will have stored the MOBI file in a "Calibre library" directory on your C drive ssomewhere. You can then drag and drop the .MOBI book onto the kindle.

Thanks Fanny. This is a book that has been emailed to me in preview form for me to review, and I realised that it was already in e.mobi format. However having dragged and dropped it onto the kindle, I can see it in the kindle folder, but when I search for it on the kindle itself it's not there. Puzzled...

which folder did you put it in and what type of kindle do you have? I had this issue with my sons kindle...
trying to remember how we fixed it

Update: I worked it out :)
Once I'd put it on the kindle I then needed to put it into the documents folder, and when I looked on the kindle under 'docs' I found it. Thanks for your help in alerting me to the e.mobi thing Grin
