Cheap smart phone for teenage dd

Dd1 (15) is wanting a new phone for Christmas. I don't want to spend a lot of money because she doesn't use it as much as most teenagers and she's a teenager so she's quite clumsy with it. But she does want a smartphone rather than a brick (it's replacing a Blackberry that she inherited a couple of years ago when my sister upgraded)

Does anybody have any recommendations? I am happy for recommendations of cheap handsets for PAYG, or cheap contracts (maybe up to £15 a month)

My son has a galaxy fame. He's had it about a year. I got him a contract from T-Mobile/ee for £10 a month. We've switched the internet off so it only works on wifi. He's nearly 13 and seems happy with it. Like your dd he doesn't use it much and it's mostly switched off.

We've got DSD a Nokia lumia 635 (I think) on contract from tesco. It £10 a month for the phone, 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb data. She's happy with the phone which is a miracle.

There are loads of different phones and contracts in tesco and they're the best prices I've seen and the contracts can be capped from £2.50 so no possibility of getting a huge bill.

Thanks. We're with Tesco atm and I haven't seen any other contracts cheaper. I've just looked at the lumia and it looks good to me so that may well be the one we go for. I just need to run it past dd to see if she likes it.
