Would we get value from a Tablet?

We don't have any tablets in the family (myself, DH, DDs age 15 and 10)at the moment.
Would we need one given that:

  • we have laptops
  • I don't feel a need to internet on the move
  • we are not a gaming family
  • we own decent cameras

Is there any point to them for us? What are we missing?

I got a free tablet but rarely use it as i tend to stay on the laptop instead. DS has a tablet just to play games on.
I don't think you would get much value out of it tbh. Stick with your laptops.

We keep ours in the kitchen, where I find it very handy for recipes. If I had a laptop in the kitchen I might use it for recipes, but it would be too unwieldy and vulnerable to have on the counter next to me as I cook. For similar reasons, the iPad is what we first reach for when we need to reference something, check a map, or settle a debate at the table.

It's certainly not essential, but very nice to have.

I used to use a laptop a lot. Got an ipad a couple of years ago as a birthday present from my mum (she loves her ipad). I did not think I would use it much but I do, a lot.

Movies in bed, much easier to watch tablet than laptop.
Movies on demand streaming to TV from the tablet.
A few games.
Mumsnetting
Checking weather, ordering things online from amazon.

It's the speed of booting, the tablet is always on, the laptop takes several minutes to boot. By the time the laptop is ready, I can have already found what I want to buy and have the email confirming order placed.
Movies and iPlayer are my biggest use though, mostly at home but also when travelling.

I use in preference to my laptop for loads of quick jobs and the dc watch stuff on them. It is the ease of use unless I need to type something.

I would say if you're looking to replace one of the laptops then yes but as an add on to what you have, no not really.

Thanks. Nice to know I'm not missing anything obvious!
