Need to replace low level voice on Tom Tom Start with another

Can anyone help? What should I replace it with? Bought Tom Tom 25 start. The voice level on 100% is really! really difficult to hear. This is totally different from my Tom, Tom One which was loud and clear. Also, road lay outs disappear, leaving only a red line and an arrow plus this almost impossible to hear voice. Need to take this back as it is worse than useless. Replaced old Tom, Tom One as it had lost its sound. Now not much better off with this weird pictorial layout when off the main roads. No idea where we are as no road names just the signs on bottom of the screen plus the odd voice help which is near impossible to hear.

Your unit sounds faulty to me.
I have a top of the range TomTom (2 yrs old) and I'm very pleased with it.
The best thing about it for me is that it has a sim card and receives automatic traffic updates. It's saved me from long queues and delays many a time.
One can also do 'Local Google' (I think that's what it's called) searches on it which, on the few times I've used it, has been very useful indeed.
Good luck.

Thank you DanfmDorking. I will return to Halfords tomorrow and hope they will change it. I only purchased a basic one as it is not used on a regular basis. My previous Tom Tom One was great. Thanks again.

My first was a Tom Tom One for a couple of years.
It which worked well and I was pleased with it.
Then I decided to treat myself!
Good Luck.

Took it back but they said the sound was as good as I could get. The Tom Tom One was really loud and clear. I was told that even if I upgraded I would have the same issue. So I will have to listen to my daughter's Tom Tom and review the situation. He said the red route is what you get when on leafy roads where the sat signal is poor. We had gone to East Grinstead mostly on the route my husband had worked out but also following Tom Tom. All was well until we got close to destination when the road changed to the red route and tried sending us in wrong direction. On the way back we decided to just follow the Tom Tom. Took awhile before getting signal and then the red route took over which was displayed without any indication of where we were. We went down every narrow country lane available on the route, squeezing past oncoming vehicles etc and wondering where the hell we were! It certainly did well as we arrived home but it would have been okay if some roads were displayed. So thanks again for your help and pleased to hear that your investment has been successful.

Hmmmm ...
It’s not just you.
Having done a search on-line it seems that others have this problem as well.
See here, here, and here.

Also, try the "Link volume to car speed" option ("Link volume to noise level" in others). The former will increase the volume as your speed increases, while the latter will adjust the volume based on the noise in the vehicle. You may hit "Test" which lets you hear the voice command volume level you have set.

Good luck.

DanFmDorking to let you know, I took it back to Halfords and they demonstrated the Go 50 which was really loud. They had just had the new Start 50 which I was told has a new interface and is the same as the Go but without the traffic facility. They couldn't demonstrate as it was in its package but took a chance. The sound of Serena's voice is pure joy. Also, signal picked up quickly. New format took some working out and the only manuals to download refer to the older version so had a look at the Go as a general guide. We are off on a journey in a couple of days so looking forward to give it a real trial. So appreciate your help. Thank you.

Jolly good, it seems you were right and they do have a sound problem with the 25 Start. Hope the journey went well.
