Have lost my sat nav but suspect it's not permanently lost so I don't want to go out and buy another one just yet. We are away on hols next week and I wondered about whether I could buy an app for my phone but do all apps require data as I always switch that off to prevent unexpected high roaming charges?
Can anyone advise? If it is possible then any recommendations for an android sat nav app? Thanks

Waze is great. It's available on Android and iOS. It does use some data, as it downloads maps required (if you travel the same area frequently it caches the map data so does not update it every time) and it does Real Time traffic.

Alas I don't know of any that will download maps from a place you are not actually in at the time.

Be On Road looks like it will download map for use offline. Not tried it but maybe give that a go. See if it will download a map for the country you are going to over a WiFi connection at home. Then turn off Mobile Data when you are abroad.
