old IPOD shuffle help please!

I have just dug out my old Ipod shuffle (2nd generation from what I can tell from pics online) so that ds can listen to audio books. I have the dock from which to charge it, but it won't fit into the computer (I'm pretty sure it used to, but then that was a different computer). It looks about the same size as most usbs but just won't fit.

I can only assume it's faulty, but before I look into buying a new charger dock, I wanted to check that as it's an old ipod, does it use a USB that isn't compatible with up to date laptops?

Also, am I right in thinking that the shuffle might not be the best medium to use? As in, when it is turned off and then on again, it will just play back from the beginning and there would be no way to 'bookmark' a page? And I would have the same problem if we were to use my phone, right?

DS has dyslexia and finds reading difficult, I wanted him to have the option of listening to audio books on tube journeys and at bedtime. Any advice welcome!

I would imagine the shuffle would be terrible for audiobooks lol . 8 have no idea how you'd make it play sequentially.

Buy a new cheap MP3 player. A Sansa clip would be great but actually any cheap one would be fine.

Incidentally, USB ports as a standard haven't changed since they were first introduced. However, is it possible you're trying to plug the cable into something on the PC which isn't USB? Other than that, it sounds like the cable may be bent or something.

Thanks Pedro, on closer inspection I could see the USB plug was slightly bent which is why it wasn't fitting in. It was a very slight bend but a friend confirmed this is why it wasn't fitting!
