How do I keep text messages?

DS1 has just started senior school and we have got him a phone (bus ride away in next town). He sends me a text most days to let me know he's OK (and then I worry he's got no one to talk to!) Anyway some of them are rather amusing eg what he thinks of PE lessons. Is there anyway I can transfer them to my PC? Thanks

What type of phone? Android smart phone? If so then you can backup SMS to gmail.

Thanks. I have a Nokia 610 or 620 but I didn't have any data allowance otherwise I would be on MN 24/7! Unfortunately I cant get internet access using my own Wi-Fi and so I was wondering if I could plug my phone into laptop/PC and sort of upload the text messages like I would some photos?

Not sure what OS the Nokia's run. Used to have a Nokia a few years ago and it came with software for PC, Nokia Suite and I think that did save sms. So if you have software on CD, or can download it, then give that a try.

On android phone, go to PlayStore and download SMS Backup+ app. It will save your sms to Gmail.

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en_GB

Thanks Cindy, you have given me the confidence to give it a try!

A much simpler way would be just to copy type them into a word document or similar, given that they are just electronic bits of information anyway and not actually something that your DS has "created".

It's the words in the message you want to keep, not the actual message itself.
