It's really kind of them and before I accept I just wanted to ask if we will actually get any use out of it?

I have looked on amazon and there are still games out there for it.

I used to work in IT (many years ago) and I know that there is very little point in getting a computer that is a few years old as nothing will really run in it.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if we could actually use the ps2?

I really don't want to accept their offer and then not be able to use it as that would feel really ungrateful.

There's loads of games for the ps2.. even places sell them pre owned still.

Whether you use it is up to you though.

You can still purchase games for it so unless you have a newer games console then I would accept it.
I bought one a couple of years ago for DS1 as I wanted him to learn how to use it and not break it like he does everything else before I forked out for an Xbox.

Thankyou. That's really helpful. I just didn't want to waste the kindness if that makes sense. I.e. Take it and then not be able to use it.

Will take over cake and wine to say Thankyou.

Just be aware that no new games will be coming out on ps2. We ended up buying a ps3 much earlier than I wanted to as a specific game DS was desperate for wasn't released on ps2.

But you can still get older games. What ages are your DCs?

gamerchick · 21/09/2014 10:27

Yeah same problem here with the xbox...long eagerly awaited game is only being released on xbox one.. I had tears in my eyes at being forced to get one.

But there are still loads of games for play station 2 so the should keep kids occupied. But if they get gripped on one particular game though they may want to follow the series which means upgrades Grin

You can pick up second hand games for ps2 cheap on eBay and second hand game shops. I still have my ps2 even though I have a ps3, there are some brilliant games for it, and imo there are more family and childrens games for the ps2 than the later consoles.

Two boys, 4 and 6, so no need currently for latest games. I am sue it will come but for the moment the ps2 sounds ideal. Thankyou everyone.

If you can get hold of it DS loved a game called Roadtrip at that age and at 13 refuses to get rid of the ps2 because of that game! It's age 3 plus and is basically driving around various 'worlds' doing things. They can win coins to buy add ons for the cars etc. A memory card is useful so they can save their progress.

The Lego games are good too.

We got a playstation when DS was four and I also bought a kitchen timer and limited him to 20 mins at a time at first. It got to a stage he naturally stopped around then anyway.

Ps2 is coming into retro gaming chic now. dS has today taken his to uni with him.

Get an eye toy too and one or 2 of the simple games. They'll love that. Silly ones like wiping foam off windows to clean them etc.
