We've just moved house and after having lived with just box sets and Iplayer for the last five years, we are waaaay out of the loop of both Tv shows and TV sets. And Jon snow's latest ties on Channel 4 news.

I'm normally quite good with technology but looking at MoneySavingExpert has me a tad bamboozled.

We will be connecting with Virgin media if that makes any difference?

So:
Is HD Ready good enough? (Probably)
Any make recommendations/avoids?
Also any good deals around now - want to buy this weekend?
Should we get this chromecast thing to be able to use the internet on it rather than a Smart TV?
What else am I missing?

Eternal gratitude for arming me with some facts for my mission...

What are Virgin Media providing? If you are getting cable TV then you probably don't need a smartTV as your Virgin Cable box is what you use to control things.

HD Ready will probably be fine. Consider screen size that suits the room in which it will be located.

Samsung, LG, Panasonic are some brands to consider if you are a brand type person.

We've got a Samsung smart TV that hitches up to the wi fi. It's brilliant.
It has full HD, Freeview and lots of apps.

We use it for Freeview programmes and also the main channels' catch up options.

Thanks both.

Ended up with Samsung - probably the one you're describing. Good so far!
