Ipad won't switch on

Yesterday my ipad mini crashed twice in succession then came up with the "plug in to itunes" error message. I followed the online instructions of holding the home button down while plugging in etc but still wouldn't go in to recovery mode.

This morning it won't switch on at all, however the computer bings when I plug it in but doesn't recognise anything.

Any ideas? We only got it last week from the apple shop. It was a replacement as DP smashed the screen on his one so I guess we could always take it back....

Is there charge in the battery?

Or, try to reset it. Hold the home button at the same time as the sleep button until the apple logo pops up.

Thank you. I've tried that and managed to get it to swtich on again, so it's now showing the plug in to itunes message again but still can't get it to go into recovery mode.

Are you connecting it to the same machine that you set it up on, with iTunes?

Yes, it's the same computer.
