Just waiting for this to be delivered and I am soooooo excited. I plumped for it over an iPad mini after doing some research. Does anyone else have one yet?

Just me then! [Grin]

Well, it arrived and it is a thing of beauty. The screen is beautiful, sharp and crisp and better than retina.

It's amazing isn't it. Stunning stunning display and no lag.

Oh, I am pondering a tablet - I think I want either a Tab S or a Tab 4 - 10 inch.

Is the screen really that different?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 02/08/2014 12:41

Compared to my daughters I pad retina it looks better. I did turn off the adaptive display which it was set on when it arrived, it was just too bright.

It really is a lovely sleek tablet, makes the I pad and ios feel clunky and counter intuitive.

It really is. It's a bit like when they turn on the colour in the Wizard of Oz!

IScreamForIceCream · 02/08/2014 12:53

is it £200 better?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2014 13:02

I don't know. I bought an 8.4 which was £319 from John Lewis (with a three year guarantee) it compared wellish with the mini ipad retina price. I wanted something slightly future proof as the older operating systems don't support all of the newer apps. I chose it because of the screen and because it has a micro sd slot so all the music and photos could be stored on that.
I couldn't really stretch to the 10.4 (it was the most generous by far present I've ever given!) so compromised by going for the smaller screen.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 02/08/2014 14:19

I bought it for much the same reasons kitten. The selling point for me was the fact you can mount an sd card, with apple you have to pay hundreds to expand the memory.

I also have a Samsung smart TV so this links perfectly.

I scream, it depends on what you want to spend and what you use it for. I was gonna get this or the mini but this gives me far more bang for my buck.

If I was going to get a cheaper tablet I would have bought a Nexus. My phone is a Nexus 5 and it's wonderful, the hardware is superb and the operating system is pure android without any of the bloat you can get on Samsung, though there are ways of getting round this.

Thanks both!

I am still undecided, but I am queen of procrastination.
Maybe I need to go and see them side by side?

I def need the 10 incher. I have a Samsung phone and tellybox, so am quite happy with Samsung/Android, and am now so over Apple (apart from my ipod Classic which you will ahve to prise from my cold, dead hand. Oh, and my Macbook, tho that needs an upgrade too I think. Damn you, built-in obsolescence!

IScreamForIceCream · 02/08/2014 14:27

Hmm, it seems the diff is only £120...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/08/2014 14:38

I'd visit one. Pcworld probably have them in if you don't have a john lewis.

Bear in mind that the next round of iPads are probably only a couple of months or so away and it would be worth googling to see if they are planning another iteration of iOS.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 02/08/2014 15:06

I'm sure the next round of istuff will be gorgeous but you still have to fork out for the extra gb.

They have dropped the price of the I pad air recently. You need to have a look at them side by side before you decide.

I do think android is slightly more future proof. I have a cheap android tablet I got years ago and that stills run fine, just as well as when I got it. My I pad retina which I bought last July has started to develop the odd issue, batterie drains but charges slowly amongst other things. Each new Apple update seems to bring a new glitch. It's almost like they want you to buy new stuff all the time. Hmm
