What's this new notification icon on my Android phone?

Like a sideways Z. Suddenly appeared today. Been Googling with no luck. Anyone know what it is?

NFC notification. Do you have it switched on?

That was meant to say, NFC?

How would I check that?

Look in your settings. Mine's under 'connect and share'.

Settings > wireless and networks > NFC - just untick it.

It's so you can send data to another device, just by putting it near it.
(Near field communication.)
