Thoughts on where I should start looking please? Happy to get into another contract. Current smartphone contract with 3 is up for renewal. And is the iPhone 5 much much better than the iPhone 4? Thanks!

I have iphone 5s (previously had iphone 4) and is much, much better - faster and sleeker. But obviously v. expensive. However, if you can bear the upfront cost (or can get an interest free payment plan like I did from Apple) might be worth paying "off contract" as when I calculated costs over the 2 years of a fixed contract, they all came in about £200 more than paying for it upfront plus my £10 per month giffgaff package.

Good suggestions Keeley, thanks. Did you buy direct from Apple online or from one of their shops? I'll check out giff gaff too.

From apple online. They had a deal going at the time for interest free payments over 10 months.

I bought a new Iphone 5 on ebay last year for £300, with a sim only deal this works out at £27.50 a month over 24 months. I've just bought a new iphone 5c for my daughter on ebay for £265 and will put a tesco sim on it for £10 a month, which will work out at £21 a month. Tesco can also cap the sim so you can't go over the tariff. I prefer not to be tied in to a 2 year contract.
