Why can't I sync my iPhone calendar with 'Calendar' app on my mac?

Just that: why do appointments I put in my phone not turn up on my mac and vice versa?

I've been through all the settings type things I could find, messing with all sorts but nada.

I want to use my phone for my diary (as I don't always carry my paper diary) but it's easier to put in appointments on the computer.

Anyone help please?

Ah thank you charley. Well that's a PITA, as the free bit of the cloud holds bugger all.

I think the latest iTunes update, 11.2.2 (3) which I downloaded this evening, sorts this problem - pretty sure it said you can sync via USB

Why do Apple have to make everything so hard to actually do? Who wants to plug their phone into a computer for anything these days? Christ.

Switch to Google calendar. No more problems.

yep. I'm totally sold on google calendar now. Just synced my calendar with DPs work calendar and I'm ridiculously pleased with it.

Easy to use and good functionality on the web version (less so on my phone but hey ho).
