Do you use a paper or electronic diary/calendar?

Just wondering. I used to always use a Filofax, then went onto a slimline diary and for the past two years have been using the calendar app on my smartphone. Sometimes I think of going back to paper but its handy having it all on my phone and not having to carry a separate diary yet there is still something about paper, what do you think?

Everything goes on my phone. It's all in one place and I always have it with me.

I use a paper diary, even though I use my iphone for everything else.

Mostly I just keep everything in my head though.

Paper calendar on kitchen door and Week Cal on my phone.

Ooh no....

Google calendar - can access it on laptop and iPhone. I love paper but not diaries - yuck!

iCal synched across all family devices - 1 shared calendar for all. Plus a calendar on the fridge with the meal plan on. Don't use paper at work anymore either it's all done through outlook.

I use the calendar in my phone and synch it with dh's. It's backed up On google - which saved my bacon last week when my phone went into meltdown.

There is something about paper. I find it easy to flick through and reference stuff on hard copies. But I do think I was initially resistant to kindles/calendar on phone because of habit. Once I got a kindle and used the calendar on my phone I was sold and won't go back to paper.

I use Google calendar (Week cal syncs with it but added features) for my iphone and share family stuff with dp. It works brilliantly for us, Week cal is a fab app.

I, too, was a dedicated Filofax user for many years, but started using my smartphone for diary a couple of years ago. I like it a lot, but there are two small irritations ... 1) I can't consult diary* when talking on the phone to someone to agree a date and 2) I can't use the stalling technique "let me check my diary and come back to you" when in a face-to-face situation because everyone knows I use the phone now.

  • If there's an idiotically simple solution to this, do let me know!

Google calendar in our house. Even our teenager has learned to add her social events to it.

Paper all the way here. Whenever I get a google reminder to do something, I just think "oh do piss off you annoying beeping thing... oh, and I've done X already because I checked my diary."

And no, I don't have an iphone, before anyone asks.

Thanks for your replies. I don't plan on going back to a paper appointment diary, though the thought has often crossed my mind. I have kept all my past appointment diaries/Filofax inserts and they are good to look back on, you don't get the same with the phone diary but I do have a scrapbook type of diary where I note down events and things like that so I have that to look back on since stopping the paper planner.

Optimist, I know what you mean about consulting your diary while you're on the phone. I have now got round that problem as I've found that I can just put the call on hold, go and check my diary or notes and get back to the caller. I can never remember my own mobile number an its stored in the notes app on my phone so when I am asked for it during telephone conversations I do have to go to the notes to find it, I may start keeping it written down somewhere in my bag so I can just access it easily.

I love paper for scrapbook diaries and journals but the calendar app on my phone is so useful, you don't have to write down repeated entries too. I also use the task list and notes, saves having notes all over the place in my bag. I do have a friend who thinks phone diaries are 'technology gone mad' :)
