Does anyone know how I can stop Chrome from displaying custom fonts?

It's really irritating. I remember back in ye olde days if a website used a font that you didn't have installed on your computer, it would just display as the browser's standard serif or sans serif font.

But now I see blogs and pages set up with all sorts of crazy fonts and while some of them are fine and look nice, others I find really cluttered and horrible. And then recently I've been having an issue where it takes a split second to render the font as the page loads, which makes my eyes go all funny, and that's the part that's really bugging me.

All I can find on google is pages of results for an old fixed problem about badly rendering fonts in Chrome. Does anyone have any idea?

It's not even doing that, it's trying to smooth the fonts for me everywhere!! Gaaaah! Stop it!
