Hi my dis is 6 on Friday and uses my iPad to watch YouTube videos on how to build mincraft creations. I want to reclaim my iPad so have been looking into getting him a tablet for occasional use. He also has to start doing his homework online pretty soon so it's inevitable he ends up with one.

These look pretty impressive and there on sale in smyths at the moment so even better. Would anyone recommend these or are they as bad as the other kids tablets out there?

Thank you

I bought a Hudl for the children and me to share
it's quite good actually. But the charging socket seems to be faulty.
v cheap though especially with clubcard vouchers

Thank you secret spy I will take a look at them today. Does the hudl give access to google play store?

Yes it does, it's a fully fledged android tablet and got 4 stars on techradar:

www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/tesco-hudl-1183138/review

For the price it can't be beat, but if you have a bit more to spend I'd go with a nexus 7:

www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-Google-Nexus-7-inch-Tablet/dp/B00EANTELE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400614074&sr=8-1&keywords=nexus+7

£150 and it was in the top 5 on techradars best tablets of 2014

My nieces both have Samsung tablets. They're great definitely recommended

i looked at the Kids tablet and aside from looking all very kiddy friendly I have to wonder at how long a 6yr old would be interested in it for.

My DSS is 7 and loves watching stuff on YouTube and playing games like Clash of Clans. The kid tablet is locked down and the kids games seem more relevant to 3-4 year olds instead.

What I'd suggest is getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0

I just got one of these for my DS(12) and it's a brilliant tablet for the money. Tesco have even extended the warranty for 3 years!

I watched this before buying it and I have to say that the reviewer has it pretty much spot on. The only thing to note is that the price of the Samsung has dropped since whereas the ipad mini has not. All that means is that it's even better value than before.

Samsung do a kids version of the Galaxy Tab with more 'crash protection' and built in parental controls. Similar price and spec to the 'real' version. Depends on the age of your kids though whether this would be a good option for you.
