iPod touch 5- shattered screen

Ds 14 had his iPod in his blazer at school and left it in a corner while he was plating at lunch. Someone came along and flung all the blazers around resulting in ds having an iPod with a completely shattered screen.

We had this before with a previous generation iPod touch, just got it repaired locally- the shop says they can't do this one, it has to be sent to apple! Apple says £126!! Is this the only way? Has anyone successfully had the screen on an iPod touch 5 mended? Dh is livid and saying ds needs to learn a lesson so I'm trying to find a cheaper option and calm the waters.

Email or tweet MacFixer with the details. They will be able to tell you if they can get the glass. It may be that Apple have not let third parties have the parts, not much choice then.

Thanks- I've done that and they emailed back already. Unfortunately it is as you said, apple haven't released the part. Ds will just have to look for a paper round!

What have the teachers said about the lad who flung all the blazers around? Surely he's the responsible one, not your son?

I guess you could argue your DS shouldn't have left his ipod in his blazer whilst getting lunch but then it doesn't seem unreasonable to do that. If it was a hot day, I would have too.

Unfortunately no one seems to know who it was- the boys were playing manhunt (whatever that is) and returned to the bags and blazers to find them thrown around.

As you say, the argument goes that (a) he shouldn't have had expensive items at school and (b) he shouldn't have left it, it should have been in his locker. The deputy head is investigating but I don't hold out any hope. A lesson learnt!
