I wondered whether you could give me some views on the above? It's dd's eighth birthday soon and my lovely mum has offered to but her a tablet. We have a family ipad already, but would be good for her to have her own tablet( can't afford and ipad for her though!)

We want something that is going to be educational but also fun. She's a good little reader, so the kindle appeals on that front. She loves minecraft- can she do this on both? Would really welcome any views.

Both devices are fairly similar with the HUDL having the slightly better spec. Throw the Kindle Fire HD into the mix and it's even more difficult to choose. Reading will be very similar on both though the Kindle app.

The main difference is that Amazon put their own user interface on top of Android which probably makes it easier to use for kids. The trade off is that you are not able to customise the device as much and you are locked to the Amazon app store ( no Google Play).

Thanks Pedro, that's useful.

Dd1 is 10 and has the kindle fire hd. She can play minecraft on it and it also has the furby boom app.
It's relatively quick and super easy to use.
I bought it when there was a brilliant offer on and ended up paying £79 for the previous generation model (think its more like the hdx). I have been so pleased with it - would rather like one for myself.

I send her pocket money via amazon and she can buy books or apps with it but there are also free ones too.

I've no experience of the hudl, sorry
