Syncing blackberry z10 with pc - it just won't!!!

Can anyone help?
Trying to get photos and videos from blackberry z10 into my laptop.
Have blackberry link installed but no matter what I do it just says that the phone is disconnected ... it IS connected by the USB.
Also, it suggests I do a factory reset but I'm scared that I'll lose all my photos...which is the whole point of trying to sync!!

I'm not very good with techie stuff but I have seen DD do this with a blackberry. Do you have more than one USB port on your computer - if so you could try another one. A factory reset would wipe all the photos I think as it restores it to factory settings. You could do a hard reset and see if that helps - take the battery out for a few seconds and then replace it. Failing all that, type into youtube 'how do I upload photos and videos from my blackberry z10' and there will probably be good advice there.
