What is the matter with me?

Please only nice replies! I keep tapping on the smiley faces when I post but nothing happens. I must be missing something. I am using an I Pad. Is that any help?
I have just tried again. As you can see. Nothing. I had some replies to another matter and really wanted to add from the smiley list.

I'm using safari browser on iPad - to get the smileys I have to type the square brackets and the word for each. Prepare to be awed (hopefully, if I can spell:

Here goes........No I am beyond help. I went into Safari. My keyboard doesn't have square brackets, only curved. I tried typing in and got some faces up but couldn't get them back to Mumsnet. I really thought those faces below the post message were on offer to include in postings! Well Polkadotpatty, I am truly in awe of your technical expertise. So for you here is (a smiley face) the best I can do.

Are you using an iPhone? Click the "123" key bottom left, then the "#+=" key. Square brackets should be top left

I'm on a phone that took me several weeks to realise there are two pages of symbols, and square brackets are on the second. They probably are there somewhere - you just haven't found them yet.

Unfortunately I am on an I pad so still trying to work it out. Good of you to bother to help. If I could draw it I would! Meanwhile (a really happy face) Thank you

Oh, what has happened? No faces when posted, only squares! Do I have to do something else. I used the emoji keyboard and selected the faces. All seemed fine until I saw it printed.??????h
