Why can't ipad connect to iPhone via hotspot?

What could be the reason for this?

I have my iPhone hotspot and password- the ipad can 'find' the iPhone hotspot but a message keeps coming up that it is unable to join.

Am so frustrated!

I'm not totally sure but I think you need to add the info to join the hotspot via the wifi on the iPhone .
I've a Ipad & iPod both. Need to be wifi connected to use on wifi

I would suspect the password is wrong.

The ipad has a tendency to capitalise the first character when entering things in text boxes.

Check lowercase and capital letters are correct in the password.
