Portable DVD player says 'no disc'

Am having a major crisis here! My DS portable DVD player had died! Hopefully temporarily. When he tries to play a DVD, you can hear it spinning round but it says 'no disc'. Either that or if it does actually register that there's a disc in it, it will just stop after a few seconds as if you've pressed the stop button. I really hope it can be fixed cos no way can afford to replace it. Any ideas anyone? Please?

I'd try a lens cleaning disk to see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't I would take it to a repair shop and get an estimate for fixing it.

Thanks prh! Am trying to see if I can find proof of purchase as Argos have said they'll exchange it. easier said than done!
