Help please!

I have a new PC and monitor, only a few months old. Today I tried to switch it on, and the PC makes all the right noises that it's working, but the monitor says "no signal ". I have checked the wiring and it's all as should be. I did Google it and didn't understand the results - motherboards, sound cards, DDRs

It is impossible to tell whether the fault is in the monitor, the cable or the PC from your description. As the PC and monitor are only a few months old I would take it back to the vendor. You would expect them to last longer than this so your Sale of Goods Act rights kick in, meaning you are entitled to a repair or replacement. Note that the vendor can decide which to offer and will usually go for whichever is cheaper - probably a repair.

If you want to do some troubleshooting yourself I would get hold of a monitor and cable you know work with another PC and try them with this one. By process of elimination you should be able to work out whether the fault is with the monitor, the PC or the cable.

I had this, there was a problem with my graphics card, is it under warranty?

Do you have two graphics cards? Try plugging the monitor into the onboard graphics card

I bought it from an online store so I can phone them but the cost of sending it to them and being returned for fixing... plus I need it so cant have it gone for a couple of weeks. I dont have any spare monitor/pc either to try, I did think of that. I'll phone the company this morning and see what they suggest.

1.Trace the cable from monitor into PC

1. Check connection and reseat to ensure ok
2. Test PC
3. Trace cable into PC and see if there is another similar type connection and plug the cable in there, test again
4. If the monitor still shows no signal, it could be the cable on the monitor that's faulty and NOT the one or two connections on your PC

Well I spoke to the company today and they were brilliant. He helped me over the phone with the help of me taking a photo and him sending it back with red boxes round the bits needing removing. I removed the graphics card, checked for signal, then removed the DDR card thingys and check for signal and still nothing so he thinks its the motherboard and says he can change it for a new one and change the cable as well, but I need to get it to him (courier for £60 or drive it up myself). And all this whilst keeping a 10 mth old at bay with an outstretched foot!
