Photo storage confusion!

My phone's memory is full so I need to transfer my photos somewhere. I've been doing some research as to where and after reading all about online storage solutions, external hard drives, CDs/DVDs, etc I have to admit that I'm probably non the wiser!!

I normally transfer my photos to my laptop but I'm looking for a safer long-term solution.

What do you do?

Personally, I'd just dump them out to a non-re-recordable DVD. Probably the best and safest long term solution.

Diverse solutions are probably best.

Start with a backup from phone to laptop, then back up the laptop to an external hard disk, that way you have at least 2 copies of everything, which offers some protection. There is still a possibility of both the lap top and external hard disk failing close together or both being destroyed in the same accident or fire.

The best way to guard against this is to store copies elsewhere. DVDs can be a good medium, because they are cheap and easy to mail to friends and family for safe storage. DVDs are also good because a virus can easily wipe hard disks, but there is no way to wipe a standard DVD (DVD-RW can be wiped).

Cloud storage may also be an option, but you are then relying on a bunch of strangers to look after your precious photos.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I agree that diversity is the key so will go for the three storage options suggested i.e. laptop, external hard drive and DVDs.

I also agree re cloud storage, I would feel uneasy using that option.

(Not sure why I mention CDs in my OP...d'oh!)
