How can I check my Mac re sharing phone texts etc?

I'm confused. I was just using my Mac, when what seemed to be a text message flashed up on my screen briefly. The message never appeared on my phone.

Techy DH has probably set up lots of sharing / backing up, but I'd rather it was just a phone .

Okay, it was an iMessage that my computer got, but not my phone. iMessage is turned off on my phone as it's caused me problems in the past. How do I turn it off on my computer?
