Android Apps for 'seniors' (ahem)

For my mum. She would kill me if she heard me calling her a senior but she is.

She has just got a Samsung tablet, and wants to play on it. Which means I have to think of things to point her to, as she is not so great at finding them herself.

She has got news apps and readers, email, fb, google earth and skype. And I am trying to tempt her into online shopping with associated apps. Plus iplayer and the like.

Anything else interesting that you can think of that a c. 70yo might like? She's not interesting in gaming, does not tweet or do forum stuff.

She likes family history stuff, cats and soaps. And emailing her pals. I know not all people are the same, but if you can think of any interesting content, apps etc I should be very grateful.

My mum got my brother's Samsung android phone after years of being attached to her Nokia from 1996. Big hits so far are Skype for chatting with grandchildren, the National Trust website and the Kindle app (for "book emergencies"...). I'll be watching this thread with interest for more suggestions.

simple home screen for ease of access
Google goggles is great for discovering extra information about a huge range of things . It even translates foreign text.

Ooh, that launcher looks good. She wants a smartphone next (ie my old one), but is worried that she'll not be able to find/select the 'pictures' aka icons.

Kindle app is a good one too, thanks!

A very polite bump, in case anyone else has any ideas...

My mother in law plays Word with Friends. Would she like that? It's just Scrabble really.
