Abusive EXH changed FB password - please help

Hi, this isn't for me, it's for somebody who works for me. She is divorced from her EXH and they live in different countries. Last night he sent me a message from her FB account. I asked her about it and she told me that he guessed the password to her FB account and changed it some time ago. He now uses FB to send messages to people to cause trouble for her.

She said there is nothing she can do as she doesn't know the new password. There must be something she can do, surely?

Please help - thanks.

I just tried to log into mine as if I didn't know my password. It gave me three options.

  1. Log in via my google account.
  2. Email a link to reset the password to the email account the account is registered to. 3)Text me a reset code to the number I have on the account.

Has she tried all of those? If she has then there is a report button www.facebook.com/hacked/ She needs to know one of her old passwords.

FracturedViewOfLife · 28/12/2013 06:27

Oh and he sounds like a twat. I hope she gets it back.

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 06:32

Thanks, but you can only report your own account being hacked from that link. She can't get into her account to report it.

She shouldn't need to log in at all. She should just need to type in her name and then a name of a friend on the account or her email address and then any old password she used. It doesn't have to be the current one. Facebook advice here

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 06:59

Thanks we just did this, but it sent a Code to her email address. We just tried to open her email account, but it has been deactivated as she has not used it for a long time.

What now?

Sorry if that sounded arsey, I didn't mean it to. I haven't slept yet so my brain is a bit frazzled. Smile Good luck to your friend, I hope someone has another answer.

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 07:00

Didn't sound arsey at all Smile. Was actually very grateful for your help. It would have worked if she had used the email address more recently.

X-post. I really don't know then, sorry. Will have a google.

Fairylea · 28/12/2013 07:04

My ex hacked into my fb and renamed the account and sent malicious messages as if it were me. I reported it to fb but they have still not removed the old account 5 years later! All I could do was to set up a new one and message everyone who was on my friends list explaining what had happened. After a while he got bored and stopped. It was very upsetting.

FracturedViewOfLife · 28/12/2013 07:08

Read number 2 I don't know if number two was an option (this could be a really out of date article) but FB say the same sort of thing here

addictedtosugar · 28/12/2013 07:30

Can she reactivate the e-mail account, and then read the message?
Or get a text alert as per fractured first post?

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 08:09

Fairylea, that's awful Sad.

So I have spent the last few hours on this and I cannot find a way to report it or suspend the account. I can't even post on her timeline to let people know this man has hacked her account!

tribpot · 28/12/2013 12:43

This suggests there's an option you can select if you no longer have access to your primary email account.

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 13:34

Thanks tribpot, but after choosing the option for 'No longer have access to these email accounts' it still sends a link to one of them!

tribpot · 28/12/2013 13:38

Could she report it as a fake account as per the advice here?

CeQueLEnfer · 28/12/2013 13:40

We tried that, too. But when you get to the point where you say which type of fake account it is, it doesn't move on from that page.

It is so annoying!!!

Gargh. Browser problem?

You could try an email address this suggests abuse at facebook dot com may work?

chateauferret · 28/12/2013 21:41

Report the arse to the police. What he's done is an offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1993.
