Should I go for windows 7 or 8? I currently run xp.

Office 2010 or 2013?

And does it matter what processor I have inside, or any of the techy stuff? Computers have such big memories etc these days.

Anywhere to buy from? My last one was from dell, and I was happy with it. Any recommendations?

Thanks!! Xx

Win8 appears to be almost universally hated, so if you're upgrading from XP I'd suggest Win7. I have no experience of Office 2013 so can't comment, but did quite like 2010.

A dual core with a clock speed of about 2.1GHz is alright (well, it is for me). You'll likely need 6GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The pc I have was made by a small firm in Lancs to my requirements, it runs XP, has an Intel Duo Core 2.1GHZ, 250GB HD and 3GB of RAM. It's more than adequate as it only gets used to browse the net and play videos on the Youtubes. It cost me £80 inc next day delivery.

If you like I can PM the details.

You have mail.

You can't buy Windows 7 anymore so you if you are getting a new PC then it will come with Windows 8/8.1.

As for Office, I always recommend Kingsoft Office which is practically a clone of MS Office and is free.

Windows 8 isnt universally hated, just hated by those who dont want to learn a new system besides which if you put Classic Shell on it,you have a start menu, the desktop is very similar to windows 7 and you dont need to use the tiles unless you want to.

Thanks nice guy. Is king soft compatible with ms word? I need all my files to be compatible with word ones. Plus does it have the same tools - track changes, comments etc?

You can still buy Windows 7 PCs. Ebuyer.com is one of many places still selling Windows 7 PCs. The big bricks and mortar chains may only stock Windows 8 PCs, but it isn't hard to find Windows 7 PCs online.

I see Argos still have some windows 7 desktops.
