Virus protection and BT

Think I am going to explode. Just got a new PC which came with a month's trial McAfee free. Just expired. We upgraded to BT unlimited broadband in Nov. BT started charging us for BT Unlimited Protection £3.49/month at the same time. Up till today I thought it was included, it always has been in the past.

Anyway, trying to download the BT protection onto the new PC today as free sub ran out. I log in to My BT, it only offers me the option to buy, while telling me it's free and included in my package (actually I'm paying for it, it's there on my bill). I ring BT. 45 mins and 3 people later have got nowhere, and they will 'ring me back'.

Question - would it be more sensible just to buy my own sub to McAfee - looks like I can get it for £30/year? The £3.49/month is so clearly yet another BT rip off. Just seemed easier once long ago to include it ...

Obviously I should also start reviewing our provider - I really can't believe how much BT seems to cost, even though I go through it with them and they offer endless discounts, then within months you end up paying EVEN MORE! Aaagh. Mainly a rant.

I'd ditch them both.
Get yourself Avast! (download from Cnet). Its free.
If you're on Windows, enable automatic updates.

thanks squirted. Have just done exactly that. Now have Avast.

BT (4th person) rang me back just now to tell me they had given me the free McAfee trial and that I would now have to pay and speak to consumer services (5th person perhaps). Except I already am paying. Maybe I'll try to get it off the bill tomorrow. In the meantime.... tired of them.

Avast it is. Thanks again

Good. Make sure you remove the mcafee programme, as you shouldn't run two av products on one machine.
