iPhone 4S nightmare - contacts, email problems etc

My iPhone has removed all my contacts, but bizarely the numbers are still there, for instance in messages the number is there but not the name. If I go to contacts I don't have any!

If I want to send a message to anyone if I type in their name their number comes up, but not their name iyswim.

And a few days ago the email account on hotmail I use for ebay won't let me delete messages. Says its unable to move to trash.

I also use what app and all contacts have disappeared from favourites.

My iPad has no problems at all. I back both up when I recharge via a plug socket ( I don't have another device) to iCloud and I can't see anything different in the iCloud back up for either.

I've tried turning it on and off. And yes, recently I updated to iOS 7! What do I do? I'm starting to hate the thing.

These are really common problems with Apple devices. They work great until something goes wrong and then they go disastrously wrong. Because Apple restricts any real user intervention it means you can rarely fix issues yourself so you'll probably need to send it back to Apple.

Personally, I'd send it back and get an Android instead.

It's strange, that my iPad is now ios7 but the contacts are still in that and there are no problems.

My 4S also just did this - literally 2 hours ago - never happened before. Deleted all contacts. Texts and everything else were fine. I plugged in to my computer and restored from my last backup. I stopped it before it synced. Took @ 15 minutes and now all contacts are back.

I googled and it's not an uncommon or unheard of problem. I think as long as you back up regularly it's a PITA but not a total disaster.

And now, after 2 weeks of being missing, they have all come back. I didn't do anything either!

Make an appointment at a Genius Bar, they will probably sort it out.

Hmm.. Mine has stopped notifying me of new emails, struggles to send some iMessages and other weird things. Makes me a little suspicious. Do they program these phones to last a couple of years tops so that people feel they need to upgrade even if they don't want to? All these issues have also coincided with me getting non-stop phone calls from the network provider and other random companies saying I'm entitled to an upgrade or they can help me to reduce costs, etc. I don't want to! I like my phone (when it's behaving!)
