I haven't updated my settings. Heard bad reports about IOS 7. Should I bother updating?

Yes you should update. There are plenty of other threads about it - do a bit of research and see what you think.

It's not all perfect but overall I much prefer it.

Don't forget to check your PRIVACY SETTINGS if you do update as Apple are a bit intrusive.

hollyisalovelyname · 24/11/2013 23:00

Thank you

ThenSheSaid what should I do re Privacy Settings to make Apple less intrusive?

ThistledownAndCobweb · 09/03/2014 12:47

If you click on the link in ThenSheSaid's reply there are instructions explaining what to do.

stargirl1701 · 09/03/2014 12:52

You should do it.

But, I must admit, I hate it. Mostly the visual impact. I was playing with my iPhone 3S recently (gave to MIL) and I miss the 'look'.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 09/03/2014 13:03

I updated to 7 on my ipad by accident the other day - I was deliberately keeping 6

I hadn't used the ipad at all for a few days, & I have an iphone 5 now which came with 7 (previously I had a 3), I'd just had a software update, & next time I used the ipad I clicked on the update thing there without realising what I was doing

I miss 6 Sad

I hate ios7. I much prefer the ios6

Excuse my ignorance. What does a green heart signify?

Weather you should or not depends on the device you have. If you have an iPhone 4 you may want to leave it, many of the transient features of iOS 7 are not available and some will work at a reduced rate. Thinkgs like no parallax or reduced motion between opening apps.

Cached memory is handled differently in iOS7 which will help reduce battery drain, but i found that i means many apps that i would have expected to be available from previous state are not. Its no biggie they just start again.

Privacy and location settings are more easily accessible, a big thing for most people. Along with background app refresh settings, another battery saving feature.

In terms of look and feel, personally i think its great. Getting rid of the faux leather on the calender app when most users in a few years time won't even know what a filofax is, green felt background, fake stitching have all gone. The OS reflects the fact that its on a £500 piece of kit rather than a tesco or argos rip off. These are personal preference.

Also note that you are NOT permitted to submit apps to the app store unless it is designed with the iPhone 5 in mind and iOS7, they can be backwards compatiable but that is optional. So while major developers that can afford to spend the time building backward compatible apps, small companies cannot and you might find they will no longer support or update older apps.

Oblomov · 11/03/2014 12:39

So hate it. Had it ages now. Was one of the first to stupidly accidentally update.
Still hate it.

stargirl1701 · 11/03/2014 12:40

I hate the new calendar. Hate it! I've gone back to using a paper one rather than ios7.

12thmonkey · 11/03/2014 13:13

I do find it amusing when people say they hate it, no explanation why, not really the most helpful thing, just venting.

stargirl.... the calender has gone through a few changes with beta releases up to 7.1. The features that were removed from iOS6 will be coming back. www.macrumors.com/2014/02/04/ios7-1-beta5-tidbits/ details beta 5 calender changes.

hollyisalovelyname · 11/03/2014 15:28

TheOne- thought that's what it meant.
Why?
I hate IOS 7!
Why did I change - rhetorical question.
I changed because I read somewhere privacy was better and I really had to change.
The old calendar was better.
You could forward a text with far less palaver.

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 11/03/2014 15:33

I was envying prism who is still on iOS5 Grin

hollyisalovelyname · 16/03/2014 09:08

I still hate the calendar!
I still hate the fact that I can't just forward a text like before and now have to copy it.

OP posts:
GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/03/2014 09:16

You don't have to copy the text. Click on the text you want to forward and it'll bring up a menu, select more and then the little arrow on the bottom right, easy peasy.

I love the calendar. I use it for absolutely everything and it's far better since the 7.1 update this week.

hollyisalovelyname · 16/03/2014 13:34

Gwendoline I tried that. To no avail.

OP posts:
hollyisalovelyname · 16/03/2014 13:35

It worked.
Thank you Thanks

The forwarding? Yay good :)
