entry level smartphones for a teen, which one?

dd would really like a smartphone for xmas/birthday, budget dictates we're looking at the lower end, not iphone prices, so far choices are along the lines of -

samsung galaxy ace (think its the 3 out now)

samsung fame

huawei ascend? (not sure of model number)

any other ideas or suggestions?, she wants to have a few apps on it, instagram mainly, but we also want it to not be obsolete within the next year as technology has moved on so fast.

If it's entry level, it will be at least be "out of date", if not actually obsolete within a year.

Make sure the Android version is at least 4.1.

The Sony Experia E is another possibility.

Not all teens feel they "have" to have expensive kit.. Mine both (17 and14) have galaxy y. It's basic functional and robust, it does internet plays music etc ( and has an sd card for lots of tracks) texts lots etc and 17yr old turned down a much better phone in favour of extra cash per month!
