can't find downloaded things on Kindle Fire

I download small files from t'internet quite often onto the Kindle Fire. I can bring down the screen after the "file downloading" message and open them, but can't find them again once closed after initial reading. Also downloaded an audio book recently and can't find it on the device - not in music or books. Help!

Have you tried looking in the docs section? On the home screen scroll the menu words to the right and Docs is second from right before Offers.

Yes, looked in docs but nothing appears either in device or cloud...
