I have managed to get a ukash virus on my laptop and cannot get rid of it. I have tried to reset to a previous time but no joy. Can anyone help? It's Windows 7. Thanks.

Any help?

LIZS · 22/07/2013 17:49

Bad luck :( , ds had one and had to be removed at a shop as it locked the O/S. Apparently quite common and can do a lot of damage. Did yours take a picture via the webcam ?

way2serious · 22/07/2013 17:57

Thanks for the link but have done the system restore and still locked out of everything else.

I don't have a web cam. What would it take a picture of?

Took a pic of ds and put it on the "notice of prosecution" , quite freaked him out.

widowerbutok · 22/07/2013 18:12

If you type in "remove ukase virus" into google, you will get a number of options of how to remove it. Best of luck.

way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:17

Thanks. Have googled and tried various things but it just brings up the page and won't let you onto anything else. So can't download anything to help like the malware stuff as you can't get onto the internet. Am just locked out.

Glad I don't hav a webcam. That would really spooky me!

ds' laptop was locked regardless of what we did . Sorry but think you may need a total clean and restore. cost us £90

usualsuspect · 22/07/2013 18:20

Have you tried logging on in safe mode?

way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:21

Thanks lizs. How long did it take them to do?

OP posts:
way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:22

Yes have tried that usualsuspect to do the system restore. Thanks.

You can log on safe mode with networking to get on the internet.

way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:25

Thanks will try that.

A couple of days. We couldn't get any further even in safe mode

sudointellectual · 22/07/2013 18:28

Have you turned off your computer and turned it on again, tapping f8 repeatedly, then chosen "safe mode with networking" as usualsuspect suggests?

Just to diagnose your issue. It's not clear what you've tried.

usualsuspect · 22/07/2013 18:30

My DS got rid of it in safe mode with malware bytes. But it took him ages.

I did think I would end up formatting the whole drive.

way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:31

Have really only managed to do a system restore a couple of times.

way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:33

Have tried safe nice with networking but takes me straight to the white screen or virus screen

OP posts:
way2serious · 22/07/2013 18:34

Sorry safe mode!

Any more tips or advice?

Reformat your machine.. it's a pain in the arse as you lose everything but it'll get rid of it.

You should have got the OS disc with your computer.

If you dont', take it to the shop and ask them to reformat it.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 22/07/2013 19:52

Have you got Malwarebytes on your computer? I'm guessing not, that's why you need to download it?

If that's the case, use the Malwarebytes installation that allows you to install to a USB, and do it on a different computer. Then run it on your infected laptop.

gamerchick · 22/07/2013 19:53

Or go to bleeping computers.com and the guys there will help you out.

Chanatan · 22/07/2013 20:01

If you want to restore it to factory settings, you can do it yourself. What make and model is it?(most threads I have been on,on techy forums, normally end up doing a factory restore). There are full instructions here on how to remove it but even if you are sucessful would you ever enter secure details on the laptop again,I know I wouldnt, would always be wondering if there was a trace hidden somewhere.
