Please tell me about setting up parental controls

Dss have suddenly growd up and I don't yet know how to set parental controls on IE and Firefox . . . .

I am not very tech savvy, but can follow most clear instructions . . .

There's no substitution for only allowing internet access whilst you are in the same room.... but that wasn't what you asked for.

Rather than set the controls for each browser on each PC/phone/tablet, you can use OpenDNS by changing the configuration of your router so that, in theory, all devices are covered. Works quite well for me at home and is free.

That said, no control is perfect and things do slip through the net, especially on Google images.

Thank you GD. Yes we do normally only use the family computer in the living room, but a Kindle Fire has just joined the family, and I was hoping to encourage ds2 to read in bed a little more often, so was wondering . . . .

I don't have a Kindle Fire but I would guess that you can password protect the use of certain apps (and installation of new apps) including the browser. As the Kindle is based on Android it should be able to do that. A pure Android device can. In any event, OpenDNS should still provide some protections.

Not sure my son would read if he had the Fire though. I prefer the look of those Paperwight ones .....
