How effective are they at dealing with spam? I have a gmail account but some servers have problems with sending emails to gmail accounts.

The same. Exactly. They have the same system in place, including flagged messaged etc.

Gmail's spam filters are pretty good. They have some false positives, but they don't make a lot of mistakes.

Yahoo, in my experience, flag a lot of stuff as spam when it isn't, so you have to keep a very close eye on what's in your spam folder. Most people who deal with email professionally have a very low opinion of Yahoo.

The bottom line is that if you want a quality service, you pay for it. It doesn't have to be much, maybe £20 per year for email and a domain name with somebody like www.virtualnames.co.uk. If you aren't paying for the service then you are the product being sold.
