For very simple editing, such as cutting a bit out, I use Windows Live Movie Maker. It may already be installed on your system. If not, you can download it free from Microsoft - here.

Very easy to cut bits out of videos.

I suggest doing some tests, so that you make sure whatever software you use can open the video file whatever camera you are using produces.

Depends how pro you want your video. WLMM if you're not that bothered/only editing home videos, Camtasia if you want it to look amazing and want to fiddle with different things :)

KatyMac · 22/05/2013 07:57

It's for a dance audition so needs to be a bit OK but not worth paying for I guess

Then Windows Movie Maker should be fine. You can put in effects and stuff easy enough :)

KatyMac · 07/06/2013 14:50

OK - I'm starting this now

So.......any tips?

I think I need to crop the start & the finish

Oh dear - this is not a good start

My files end with .mov.........Windows can't import .mov

Open WLMM, add your film, click edit and then set your start and end points.

If you can't load a mov file into WLMM, you should be able to google and find something that will convert the file for you first into a wmv. Like this.

KatyMac · 07/06/2013 15:37

Thanks Sorrel

If I use that Camtasia thing do you know if I'll have to convert them all?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 07/06/2013 17:12

Oh dear - that converter distorts the picture

& You tube won't even accept it unedited

OP posts:
nannynick · 08/06/2013 08:18

Try using a converter called Handbrake. short guide to using handbrake

KatyMac · 08/06/2013 08:23
