Zotero Firefox or Standalone? And any other handy hints!

I hear that Zotero is going to be the end of all my referencing woes. I need to get it up and running but am, quite frankly, a bit baffled.

So - which do I install (and why)? If it makes any difference I will be working on a MacBook, ipad, and windows laptop at various times. I don't currently use Firefox but am not averse to running it.

Not heard of it, sorry. About to hunt down 'Zotero' and see what it claims to do and what it needs to run...
