iPad/music question

All my itunes music is stored on to my laptop.
When I got my iPad a copy of the music was put onto the pad.
However I have more music than storage space for the iPad.
All the names of the songs are there but 'ghosted' and won't play.

so my questions are
1, is there anyway I can get at least some of the music to play
2 If not how would I get a new selction of songs on to the iPad?

It's been a while since i have done this but basically you need to tell your ipad not to sync all music. By default it does. To do this you plug the ipad into the computer using the cable then click on the ipad and then the music tab (I think).

Then you choose the playlists you wish to have on your ipad and it copies the music required across.
