My facebook account has been hacked

Got a message from Facebook as they had blocked a login from a random location.

Went to Facebook (not following link in email). was asked if I recognised the activity - I didn't. changed FB password as requested.

Now, my FB login is my email address and password. I use the same login for all non essential sites - millions of them.

I presume I should go through and change the passwords on everything I use that password on with that email login.

Do I also need to change the password on things with different user name with same password.

I know I should have different passwords for everything but how the feck do I remember them all?

I'm here in tears please tell me I am completely overacting.

I would change the key, important ones that you use from now on, especially any that 'remembers' your card details, like Amazon. My FB got hacked (PITA but nothing worse, just spammed all my inbox contacts) and I changed my main e-mail password, ebay, amazon, internet banking and possibly a couple of others.

Change it to something else memorable, with a few numbers and random symbols thrown in.

A friend of ours works in IT security and he said it's worth changing it reasonably regularly anyway and having a different password for key sites that process financial data. And he said keep the FB one seperate to all the rest.

If it helps, I have three current passwords, but never remember which goes with which site, other than the FB one.

It's worth doing as good security but don't get paranoid or upset over it.

I had this happen to me tonight. I just changed the password slightly, or else I'll forget it. I did wonder if the bloody thing had my location wrong again but it did day a different device so perhaps it was an attempted hacking. Also it said at 4:25am which definitely wasn't me and my phone and computer were both switched off.

I've started trying to match site names with sites to help me remember, so for example (not one I really use) - what swims up the Amazon? A lost whale, which could become L0stwh@l3 or something.

Or what might I want to fire at the bank whenever they charge me too much? A s^apL3r

And Ilovemydog - I've had that sort of notification too - someone tried accessing your accout at 1.32am in warsaw, I do wonder if their system's just a little wonky at times.

Haven't all Yahoo's email accounts been hacked? Is it related to that?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 21/03/2013 23:03

Is it? My Facebook and google map have been very wonky lately. It keeps telling me my location is Essex and I live in Suffolk. I reported it but it hasn't changed.

I didn't notice until I wrote something on Facebook and it said posted from Colchester. Umm, no, pretty sure I'm not in Colchester!

I had problems with my FB a while back. i deactivated and eventually deleted it and then started a fresh. It was a pain in the arse but you can download all your pics etc.

I would highly recommend that if you have a new email account soley for FB and nothing else. This is what I have now. I only log into it once a week or so to clear it out etc. I should log in more to keep an eye on my FB account but at least if it does get hacked there is nothing from the email address - nothing else at all. No contacts, no bank details etc etc.

Thanks for all the replies.

My fb password is the same low level password I use form forums etc

I have unique passwords for banking, main email, and Amazon.

My world has not collapsed this morning so fingers crossed...
