I am NOT an idiot but I need help

I hate that I can't do this.

I am an independant woman with a brain but have never worked this out and now need to.

I am selling on ebay and I have taken photos of the items.

I have found (an incredible achievement in itself) the relevant bits to connect the camera to my laptop but am now stuck.

Please tell me how do I get these pictures onto my laptop?

I know everyone else in the universe can do this with their eyes closed and their hands tied behind their backs and after drinking 14 pints of vodka, but it is my personal hell.

Also, one of the items I want to sell is a gorgeous Monsoon dress with loads of detail and subtle colours but they just don't come out in the photos. Any tricks that you could teach this old dog would be wonderful.

!st thing. Is it a Windows PC not a Mac. If it is you can usually connect the camera to the pc by a wire. I take it you have done that. Now switch the camera on, otherwise the pc does not know its there.
A window should pop up saying it has found images, and asks what you want to do with them. Look at them, save them to the PC etc. Save them to the PC in a location u like. I always put them on the Desktop as they are easy to find.
You can usually find yr camera (when switched on) by opening Windows Explorer, and it will be listed there. Try that, if it does not work, and it should, there is another method by removing the memory card from the camera and putting it in the appropriate slot (if it has one) in the PC

I hadn't turned the camera on (oh, the shame!).

I have been in and named each picture so I know what they all are and have successfully put one on ebay to sell.

The only thing that doesn't seem clear now is how I save them to the laptop. I'm not sure that I want to as they are just items that I'm selling, but if I did want to, could you advise me, please?

You should get a pop up menu when your computer detects the phone which gives you the option to save the photos to your hard drive. if you aren't seeing that, try right clicking and selecting copy, then paste them into the folder you want to keep them in.
