Google Nexus 4 anyone?

I'm coming to the end of my current contract with HTC Desire S. I'm switching to giff gaff so want to buy a sim free phone, as I'm going to give my current phone to ds2.

I crave an iphone, but I can't justify as I already have an ipad and I really won't use my phone that much. I have been looking at the Google Nexus 4, which is out of stock at the moment, but hopefully back in soon. The youtube comparison videos, I've wasted my morning watching, make it look like a pretty good phone with a cheap price ticket.

Will I regret not getting an iPhone? Dh said to go for iPhone, but I know he wants me to get the 5, so we can then swap and I get his 4s!

It's a very good phone for the money. I think the only thing which lets it down somewhat is the battery is sealed in like an iphone. Not a big deal I guess if you are used to an iphone but I do like the ability to swap batteries when running low.

The other thing is the lack of expandable storage. Again it's a bit like the iphone. The cheapest one only comes with 8GB which is a bit low to be honest. Fine if your music collection is modest and you wont be wanting to load it full of games and videos.

But for the money it's compelling.

To be honest with you, if you are used to the HTC Desire S then swapping to an Iphone would be just a pain. It also makes no sense to buy an iphone 5....only to give it to your DH and get his older one lol. Tell him to sod off, get yourself the Nexus 4 and take every opportunity to show him how slow and behind the times his iphone 4s is!

Have you considered the Galaxy S3 or HTC One X+? Both these phones are cheaper than the Nexus 4 and have more internal memory (S3 is 16GB and One X+ is 64GB). The S3 also has a removable battery and an SD card slot.

And niceguy's right, you don't want to be switching over to an iPhone from a Desire, you'll find it doesn't do half the things you want it to and doesn't let you customise it to any real degree.

I thought the s3 was £400+? I have decided to go for the nexus. Just waiting for it to be back in stock....apparently happening very very soon.

DH has just got a nexus. Its lovely!

I have a note and if I were replacing it now I'd probably get a nexus. It's a huge bargain for the price.

Down sides that would just make me think though- no memory card (hence I got him the 16gb, I think 8 isn't enough with apps as well as storage if you use if for everything as I do). Also no interchangeable battery. My note lasts well enough through a day at work, but a day of screen use eg travelling/taking meeting notes etc I need a spare battery and swapping is easy.

When I had my iphone I has a spare top up charger (a power monkey one) that was good, and I think you may need something like that if you us it a lot.

Well, I've just ordered it. 1-2 week wait for delivery.

They are very lovely :) You only really need storage for apps, Google intends data (music etc) to be stored in the cloud.

Not regretting not getting an iPhone! I already prefer my nexus to dh's iPhone.....I think he prefers the nexus too.

Arrived very quickly. It said being dispatched on Feb 13th, but was dispatched 31st jan.

I've ordered one too.
I prefer the flexibility of the android system, I don't want everything in a little box in straight lines like apple want me too.

The lack of official accessories is a bit odd though... no wireless charger or cases only a bumper thing.

Oooh it's at the TNT depot.
