Geeky stuff

Typing appears randomly in the middle of previous paragraph.

How can I stop my laptop from doing this insanely annoying thing where it automatically wants to type wherever the cursor is resting? If I take a moment to compose my thoughts and then resume typing, more often than not, my typing will suddenly appear somewhere in the middle of a word in the previous paragraph, not where I just left off typing, as one might expect. How can I make it stop? I don't think it was always like this, but it's been going on for so long I can't remember.

Chances are your palm is touching the trackpad whilst you are typing.

Some laptops have a button which allow you to turn the trackpad off. Others have it as a little piece of software (commonly found in your taskbar). Sometimes plugging in a mouse will also disable it.

The other (low tech) option is to put a small piece of cardboard over the trackpad. I usually just lift my wrists up a bit but then I never type for a long time on a laptop keyboard. Annoying but then that's one reason why I got a laptop with a nipple mouse rather than a trackpad. I hate trackpads.

What NiceGuy said. You get used to it.

Oh, you know, that never occured to me! I assumed it was some kind of obscure function I had accidentally activated. Good hint about track pads vs nipples, as I'm about to buy a new laptop in addition to this on, so will bear this in mind.
Thanks a bunch!
