Abreviated version: Desktop PC (ex gaming) was loaded with counterfeit windows 7. Went all wappy so I bought win 8 off ebay with an autherisation code. (probably not quite kosher but heyho!)

Tried to install over win 7 but was still getting crazy writing and colours and would not overwrite the files as they were ? corrupt. Confused

Got someone to completely wipe and reformat the hard drive. Still would not install. Picture still crazy.

Bought new hard drive but still bonkers! Took PC to pro logic and they said the grafics card was broken so installed a new one. !!!!

Picture was of course perfect but still wouldnt install. Downloaded windows 8 via utorrent (4.6 GB) and still wont install. Boot Manager is missing. It says boot from CD so the BIOS is OK. Checked all that. Aware that if I could get to a command prompt I might have a chance, but it goes round in a 'computer met a problem and needs to restart' circle and wont let me write anything on the black screen.

Majorly peeved that i could have just put in a new grafics card and kept going with the hookey win 7 Angry. I now have 2 empty hard drives and 2 copies of windows 8 and a boot manager gone AWOL. Am in despair Sad

Can you burn the torrent version to a disc? Would need to have setup.exe on the root of the disc, i.e., not in a folder.

Could your Ebay version be just an upgrade disc? That wouldn't install over a dodgy copy of Windows 7.

Are you able to try another torrent?

TheFallenNinja · 21/01/2013 22:18

If you have 2 discs in it may just be trying to boot from the wrong one, you can select the boot drive from the BIOS screen, it will tell you which button to press.

Hmmm, could you not have bought it legally???

Are the Win 8 copies you have full versions or upgrade versions? If they are upgrade versions then they have to be installed on top of a genuine previous full version of Windows.

The windows 8 are both full not upgrades. I thought it was legal....I bought it in good faith and in fact it probably is a legal authorisation key but just not the installation disc provided by microsoft. I dont want to pay too much as it is for a 4 year old to play on a touchscreen monitor!

I have burned the torrent version to a disc. Downloaded on my PC and transferred to disc to install on the other PC. I will look to see if the setup.exe is available. If I put either disc on my PC it starts trying to install windows properly (I have installed before) but the other PC has been checked over at Pro Logic and he says there is not problem with it now it has a new grafics card.

Its only (PC) got one disc drive so i am trying one at a time and it still isnt installing.

Will keep trying thanks so far Smile
