Best free antivirus on the net?

Can anyone reccomend a good free antivirus programme I can find on the net to download?

my laptop is really playing up and I need to sort it before I can afford to buy a new norton!

Thanks all. Ive downloaded AVAST as saw an older thread highly reccomending it too.

Should I download the microsoft secruity essentials too, just to be on the safe side? Yes windows, flatpack

No, dont install two anti virus products on one machine. They will conflict.

I recommend you try Unthreat Antivirus, it's free and easy to use. I've been using it for a while now and haven't had a virus since I got it!

Can also recommend using the Trend Micro 'Housecall' (it runs from a small download, and doesn't get permanently installed so doesn't cause conflict issues, but is useful as a quarterly additional free 'scan' of your system).
