Please help! My C Drive is BEYOND FULL what can I delete?

Just that really.

I keep getting a warning that it's FULL.

I can only have one internet page open at a time and even then I'm still getting the warning.

What can I delete to make space?

Mine keeps saying that too and DH reckons it just needs some more memory adding.

All those old photos and videos, the dodgy music and empty your recycle bin :)

TNS - I think the 'clean up' has already done that :)

GML - lots of photos, some video, but don't want to delete them (I do have them on a back up drive, but need to check that and even then, still not keen on deleting them). No music & recycle bin empty. :)

Mine was like that and it deleted a load of old emails for me - that I needed and hadn't backed up - I had lots of them but managed to miss a critical couple of weeks [arrrggghhh]. I didn't actually tell it to delete the emails - it just seemed to start doing it and by the time I realised what was happening I ended up switching off the power supply to kill it as it wasn't going to switch off until it had deleted the whole lot. Hmm

so be warned - check you've got emails backed up too - especially the important ones!

ZipZap - my emails are all in yahoo so only live 'somewhere out there, beneath the pale moonlight' but sorry to hear you lost a lot of yours :(

Check your C:\temp folder probably a few gig in there that can be deleted.

ccleaner will delete all your temporay files,old av logs and any other crap you dont need,it is a recognised and well recommended tool in the techy world,it will not delete ant photos or personal documents.

I had same problem and a friend found out that at some point my hard drive had been split in two so there was an empty d or e drive and we moved stuff to that.

Have you had a look at the add/remove programs to see if there's anything jumping out that you don't need? DD kept downloading random crap like Roblox onto mine, really fills it up.

How big is your hard drive? (If you're not sure go to my computer and right click on C drive - click Properties)

Any programs/games you have on there that you don't use any more?

start with CC cleaner,then work your way through the folders,using properties, to find out where the space is being used up. You can burn photos to DVD to free up space. If its a PC as opposed to a laptop,installing an additional hard drive is pretty simple.

Anyway - if it's anything less than a few hundred GB I'd get a new one. Transfer all your existing stuff to an external hard drive and buy a bigger hard drive to actually use.

I used to have a 20GB hard drive and I have no idea how I lived Confused I get a bit antsy if I have less than 20GB spare now! I have a 160GB now and it's in no way big enough for all of my shit. I bought a 1TB (1000 GB) but have to summon up the motivation to install it with all of the swapping over of programs etc that entails.

I just swapped my 160GB for a 1TB and it's lovely. So much space. Like moving into a house with loads of empty cupboards :)

Chances are that even if there's a bit of stuff you don't need on there you will just end up re-filling the space soon anyway.

I would recommend that you get a new hard disk (if this is a desktop the good chance that you have a spare slot inside the case anyway for a second drive) at least 1TB. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get an external drive as well to back up to.

Backup somewhere online like Dropbox or a service which doesn't need to stay synced like box.com (free account 5GB)?

Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program.

The PC will list all the programs you have, how much space it is taking up and date last used. See if you can spot some large app that hasn't been used in years and uninstall it.

How big is the existing drive, and what computer is it (make and model), just to know if it will take a second drive.

About £60 will get you a 1TB portable drive (off Amazon) that you plug into the USB. Move your prized stuff over from the C drive onto here.

External drives for making space are all well and good, but if the space is taken up by programs and you need/use all of the programs that you have, then you need a bigger (or second) hard drive that is permanently installed.

Chipping, hope you don't mind me hopping on the bandwagon - was going to start a thread when I saw yours - same exact problem. Msg comes up that not enough c drive space.

Need quick temporary solution and want to free up space.

Totally, just looked at control panel and not sure what to uninstall. I suppose if I find that I do need something I removed I could just re install?

Eg, there's a program - Vodafone connect lite taking up about 22MB - don't know what that's for - should be safe to remove?

Breakout - I've had a look, but nothing that jumps out as 'crap', though I'm sure a lot of it could be removed, but I just don't know what's safe to remove and what is working in the backgroud to make things I do use work. Self confessed numpty.

Usual - so ccleaner is safe? Virus checker runs regularly.

Bertie 150gb (does that sound about right?) Games - No. Programmes - possibly, but I just don't know.

Redbindy - OK, will go and do CCleaner :) It's a laptop, but it's 6 years old - poor old thing!

Bertie - I have a TB external hard drive which I bought to use as a backup/photo storage unit and I have done that, but I want to wipe it and do it from scratch, then I need to take it elsewhere and make sure it's copied properly before I delete the photos etc off of this laptop, the thing is, the photos are really, really important and I'm worried about the Ex HD failing, so a bit chicken to delete anything. I have been considering (for ages) taking it somewhere to get someone to do it and delete the programmes I don't need, but I've been quoted £100 and for such an old laptop I'm not sure it's worth it and if they messed it up and lost the photos I wouldn't be responsible for my actions, so I've put it off.

Bertie/GML what did you buy?
