Ipod touch won't charge up on desktop

My DD's both have Ipod Touch 4th Generations. One DD forgot her passcode so I ended up having to do a restore to get into it and it wiped everything off it. I also did an update of Itunes and an Ipod update. The Ipod works fine now. I also updated the other Ipod which went wrong and I also ended up doing a restore.

However it now will not charge up on the computer. When you attach the wire you get the sound that it is charging and the funny zig zag across the battery sign in the corner of the screen on the ipod. After about 10 seconds the zig zag goes and it doesn't charge. I have tried changing the lead but nothing works. They both will charge up via the plug in the wall but not via the PC.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks

I don't have an iPod but until such a person comes along .....

With my gadget I can switch off the option to charge while connected to the PC. It's to preserve the life of the battery. People will connect their gadget to the PC to sync and then disconnect once done. Such short charging sessions hurts the battery. Hence option not to charge when connected to the PC. Is it possible that this is what is happening?
